Bible Verses About Pride

Verses about the danger of pride, God's resistance to the haughty, and the way of humility.

Pride is the sin beneath every other sin — the assumption that we are the center of our own story. These Bible verses on pride take it seriously, not because God is threatened by human confidence, but because pride blinds us to our need, isolates us from grace, and sets us up for a fall. Proverbs is blunt: pride goes before destruction. James echoes: God resists the proud. But the same passages offer the antidote — humility, which God promises to exalt. The way up is always down in God's kingdom.

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 16:18
