Bible Verses for Joy

Verses about the deep, unshakeable joy that comes from knowing God — not dependent on circumstances.

The joy the Bible describes is different from happiness. Happiness depends on what happens to you; biblical joy is rooted in who God is and what He has done. These verses on joy were often written in the most unlikely circumstances — by Paul from prison, by David in the wilderness, by the disciples under persecution. Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that 'the joy of the LORD is your strength.' In the presence of God, there is fullness of joy. Return to these verses again and again as both a declaration and a prayer.
