Bible Verses About Depression

Verses for those battling darkness, despair, or emotional pain — and the God who draws near.

Depression is not a spiritual failure. The Psalms are full of men and women crying out from the depths. Elijah sat under a tree and asked God to take his life. Jesus wept. Scripture does not pretend that dark seasons do not exist — it meets us inside them. These Bible verses for depression do not offer quick fixes or shallow cheerfulness. They offer something better: the God who is near to the brokenhearted, who hears every cry, who does not despise a contrite spirit. You are not alone in the dark.

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31
