All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus. These verses on authority establish the foundation of every other power: it flows from and must answer to Christ. He has delegated authority to His church to preach, heal, and make disciples. We are called to submit to governing authorities as a spiritual act. And yet there is a higher law: when human authority contradicts God's, we obey God rather than man. Authority, rightly ordered, is a gift — it creates the conditions for flourishing.
